Priyantha Udagedara is a leading Sri Lankan artist and art historian whose practice reflects the complex aftermath of conflict and political unrest in his homeland. Holding a PhD in Contemporary Fine Art Practice from Leeds Metropolitan University, his vibrant paintings blend acrylics, botanical cuttings, fabrics, and found imagery to form intricate floral tapestries. These works juxtapose beauty with memory, evoking the tension between paradise and trauma. Now a Senior Lecturer at the University of the Visual and Performing Arts, Colombo, Udagedara has exhibited widely across Sri Lanka, India, Australia, Portugal, the UK, the US, and the UAE. His art challenges idyllic portrayals of Sri Lanka, offering layered narratives of resilience, identity, and transformation.
