Badri Narayan was an Indian artist, illustrator, author, and storyteller. A self-taught painter, he began exhibiting in 1949 and held over 50 solo shows during his career. Working primarily in ink, pastel, and watercolour, his intimate and stylised compositions often incorporated elements of fantasy and simplicity, making his work accessible and engaging. He also illustrated children’s books and wrote short stories and verse. His works are held in major collections, including the National Gallery of Modern Art, the National Museum in New Delhi, and the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Narayan received numerous awards, including the Padma Shri (1987) and Maharashtra Gourav Puruskar (1990).
