Ghulam Mohammed Sheikh is a pioneering painter, poet, and art critic whose work blends narrative, cartographic imagination, and cultural memory. Trained at the Faculty of Fine Arts, MSU Baroda, and the Royal College of Art, London, Sheikh has taught generations of artists while exhibiting globally—from Tokyo Biennale to Centre Pompidou. His practice spans painting, poetry, and pedagogy, notably in his Mappa Mundi series. Sheikh is the recipient of the Padma Shri (1983), Padma Bhushan (2014), and Sahitya Akademi Award (2022). His works are held in collections such as the NGMA, V&A Museum, and Peabody Essex Museum. He lives and works in Vadodara, India.The artist lives and works in Gujarat, India.
