Gurcharan Singh, born in 1949 in Punjab, is an Indian painter celebrated for his figurative paintings. He trained at the Government College of Arts & Crafts, Chandigarh, and began his career in 1973. Drawing from childhood memories and everyday life, his work depicts humans and animals with honesty and sensitivity. Using vibrant colors and large-scale compositions, Singh transforms ordinary scenes into evocative narratives of struggle, resilience, and humanity. He has exhibited widely in India and abroad, including the International Biennale in Tokyo (1984), Contemporary Art Show in Seoul (1986), and Festival of Contemporary Art in London (1988), with works in major collections such as the Lalit Kala Akademi and the National Gallery of Modern Art.
