JM Subramani, also known as JMS Mani, was born in 1949 in Bangalore, Karnataka. He received his formal art training in 1974 at the Kuvempu Kala Sanstha Ken School of Art under the mentorship of R. M. Hadapad. His practice spans nature-based and gestural abstraction, drawing inspiration from archetypal forms, landscapes, and lived environments. Among his notable bodies of work, the Badami series captures everyday life through expressive impasto and recurring symbolic motifs, while other series explore emotional and conceptual themes. A recipient of several prestigious awards, JMS Mani has exhibited extensively across India and internationally.
