Nayanaa Kanodia, born in 1950 in Pune, is an Indian artist and a leading representative of l’art naïf. She graduated in Economics from Lady Shri Ram College, New Delhi, in 1969, and later apprenticed under Anjolie Ela Menon. A self-taught painter, Kanodia is known for her vibrant depictions of everyday Indian life, capturing ordinary people, street scenes, and middle-class interiors with warmth and gentle humour. Her work reflects the evolving face of Indian society as it balances tradition and westernisation. She has held numerous solo and group exhibitions internationally, including shows at the Commonwealth Institute and the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, and her works are part of major collections such as the Musée International d’art Naïf, Paris.
