Rabin Mondal (b. Rabindra Nath Mondal, 1929, Howrah, India – d. 2 July 2019) was an influential Indian painter and a founding member of the Calcutta Painters. He studied commerce at the University of Calcutta before receiving formal art training at the Indian College of Art and Draughtsmanship and the Asutosh Museum of Indian Art, Kolkata. Working primarily in oil on canvas, Mondal was known for his expressionist imagery, particularly his iconic series of kings, queens, and deities that reflected human suffering and social realities. His work was exhibited widely across India, gaining national recognition through major retrospectives, and is held in significant public and private collections.
The artist lived and worked in Bidhannagar, India, until his death in 2019.
