Rekha Rodwittiya (b. 1958)
Rekha Rodwittiya is a prominent contemporary Indian artist known for her allegorical, feminist paintings that blend surrealism and magical realism. A key figure of the Baroda School, she trained at the Maharaja Sayajirao University and later earned her MFA from the Royal College of Art, London. Her work explores themes of identity, womanhood, and personal mythology. Despite institutional pushback for her outspoken feminist stance, Rodwittiya remains a vocal advocate for women in the arts. She co-founded The Collective Studio in Vadodara with her husband, artist Surendran Nair, fostering collaborative creative practice. Her richly symbolic work continues to inspire dialogue across generations. The artist lives and works in Baroda, India.
