S. H. Raza (b. 1958)
Sayed Haider Raza LH (1922–2016) was one of India’s most celebrated modern artists and a co-founder of the Bombay Progressive Artists’ Group. His early expressionist landscapes evolved into iconic geometric abstractions centered around
the Bindu—a symbol of spiritual and cosmic unity. Living in France for decades, Raza received global acclaim, including the Padma Vibhushan and France’s Legion of Honour. A lifelong advocate of Indian aesthetics, he returned to India in his later
years, continuing to paint until his passing. Through the Raza Foundation, his legacy continues to inspire young Indian artists.
